Douglas (Doug) McKee Stratton, 90, of Akron passed away on Monday, October 10, 2016 at Arbor Apartments in Brush, CO.Doug was born on June 26, 1926 in Brush, CO to Walter Scott and Flora Kesson Stratton, and was raised on a farm near Hillrose, CO. He attended Hillrose Elementary School and Brush High School, graduating in 1943. Also in 1943, he enlisted in the Navy, and served as a gunners mate on the merchant ship Nancy Hanks. Doug was honorably discharged 1946 at the conclusion of World War II.Upon returning from the war, Doug went to Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, where he renewed his acquaintance with Ellen White of Brush, who was also a student at Colorado A&M.On September 7, 1947, Doug was married to Ellen Louise White, with whom he was joined in matrimony for the remainder of his life. Their 69-year marriage produced four children and several grandchildren, as well as many fruitful friendships, and was a continuous source of pride to Doug.Doug spent most of his life with his family northwest of Akron, CO, where they owned and operated the 5 Lazy S cattle ranch. Throughout his career, Doug was noted among cattlemen for his excellent land stewardship.Doug was a proud and devoted member of Washington County Cattlemen, Akron Elks, Akron Masonic Lodge, and the Akron Methodist Church. He was active in local education and politics, and was well-respected among his peers in all of his endeavors. Doug is preceded in death by his father, Walter Scott Stratton, his mother, Flora Kesson Stratton, his brother, John Scott Stratton, and his sisters, Margot Wilson and husband Jerry, and Rosemary Burleson and husband Hollis, and his grandson Logan Darrell. He is survived by his wife, Ellen White Stratton, his sister-in-law Marj Stratton, his children, Harriet Stratton, Walter Stratton and wife Michelle, Jill Dreher and husband Ed, and Christine Quinlan and husband Rick, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.A funeral service will be held on Friday October 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Akron United Methodist Church with Pastor Phil Vogels officiating.
