This obituary is administered by:
POOLE, Douglas AllanFebruary 2, 1959 – September 30, 2017It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas Poole. Doug will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend Barbara, their children Dustin (Charlotte) and Richard as well as his beloved and adored grandchildren Adrianna and Declan. Doug was born on February 2, 1959 at the Watrous Union Hospital. He graduated from Colonsay High School in 1977 and started working at the Allan Potash Mine during that same year. Doug was married to Barb on June 3, 1978. They made Colonsay their home-base until 1983 when they moved just outside of town to their acreage which they still call home today. Doug worked for PotashCorp Allan division for 40 years, starting out as an utility operator, working his way up to mill operations. In 2001 he made the move into the safety department starting out as the Safety Supervisor and moving up to Safety Manager, a position he held until his passing. Doug was dedicated to his role in the safety department and continuously sought to improve his skills through experience, hard work and various safety related courses which he held numerous certifications in. Doug was heavily involved in emergency response at Allan both as member of the Surface Emergency Response team and later as a coach, mentor and trainer of teams that followed him. Doug also was actively involved in Mine Rescue and Surface Emergency Response, coordinating, judging and building scenarios for teams to compete. Doug was a member of the Saskatchewan Mining Association, serving on the Safety & Competition Committees. Doug volunteered as First Responder, Member of the Fire Department and the Provincial Housing Authority Rep, all for the community of Colonsay. Doug loved his family and friends, humour and laughter, lending an ear or a helping hand, fishing and boating, nature and animals, music and trivia, his John Deere tractor and sitting on the deck, travelling and watching TV, double doubles and Coca Cola, competing and coaching first aid, the Riders, Blue Jays and Montreal Canadiens. Left to celebrate Doug's life: His wife Barb, Children Dustin (Charlotte) and Rick, grandchildren Adrianna and Declan. His mother Jean Poole. His siblings Murray (Bonnie) Poole, Dianne (David) Breckner, Konnie (John Hadvick) Vigeant, Joanne (Bruce) Helmkay. Sisters-in-law Maureen (Daryl) Moen, Donna (Dan) Trottier, parents-in-law Don and Norma Eley as well numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews, friends and co- workers.
