Duane Darley Maughan passed away on Sept. 22, 2009, at the age of 57 in his home in Providence, Utah. He was born on Feb. 11, 1952. Our loving father, husband, grandfather and brother passed away after many years of suffering with heart problems. He was blessed with the miracle of a heart transplant on Sept. 2, 2000. This miracle extended his life for nine more years. He will be missed very much by his family and his many friends. Duane loved going hunting and fishing and being in the great outdoors. He enjoyed working with wood and created many beautiful things. He was the greatest handyman around and could fix anything if he set his mind to it. Duane was a very smart, kind, generous, honest and loving person. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was enjoyable to be around. Duane was a great provider for his family. Right up to the end of his life he was more worried about taking care of his family than his own needs. Duane learned how to work at a very young age. A few of his tasks involved milking cows, hauling hay, watering crops, thinning out beets. Duane was employed at Fullmers Mill and Supply, Spindler Construction, and most recently at Jardine Petroleum for 21 years. Duane is survived by his wife, Jolynn (Saltern) Maughan. They were married on Feb. 22, 1975, and were sealed for time and all eternity on April 8, 1977 in the Ogden LDS Temple. He is also survived by his children: a son, Travis Dee (Tera) Maughan of Mt. Sterling, Utah; four daughters, Sheila Lynn (Clayton) Pehrson of Clinton, Utah, Wendy Jo (Brent) Lloyd of Las Cruces, N.M., Heidi Ann (Mike) Taylor of Mendon, Utah, and Stacie Lu Maughan of Providence, Utah; seven grandchildren: Nicolas, Tyler, Britney, Alison, Quinn, Eliza, Lyndsey and one on the way; his sister Marie Harward; his brothers, Bob Maughan, Mel (Gywnn) Maughan and Dallan (Tennly) Maughan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Vonda Maughan; brother, Terry Maughan; and sister, Maylene Maughan. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Meadow Lane Church House, 180 S. 485 West, Providence, Utah. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center Street, Logan, and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.allenmortuaries.net.
