Duane NordsethNovember 13, 1922 - August 16, 2013Duane Nordseth, 90, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013. Duane was born on November 13, 1922 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Ole Nordseth and Osa Christine Sanford Nordseth. When Duane was five years old, the family moved to Oakland, California, where he attended school. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy and served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On December 7, 1947 Duane married Marion Smith of San Francisco. At the time of his death they had been married for over 65 years. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for seven years where he worked for Pacific Fruit Express. In 1956 he was transferred to Pocatello as Assistant Plant Manager of the PFE ice plant and retired in December 1982 as Plant Manager.Duane was a long-time member of the Congregational Church. He was also a long-time member of the Elks and the American Legion.He had many hobbies including golfing, silversmithing, square dancing and ballroom dancing. Until recent years and failing health, he enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally and spending winters in Arizona. Duane was proud of his Norwegian heritage and considered it a highlight in his life to be able to travel to Norway and visit the farm in 1997 where his father had been born and raised.Duane is survived by his wife, Marion; daughter, Shirley Whitworth (Owen) of Austin, TX; sons, Richard of Pocatello and Gary (Joyce) of Beaverton, Oregon; three granddaughters, Jennifer, Amy and Katrina; three grandsons, Eric, Matt, Kevin and Travis; and two great grandsons, Noah and Elijah. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; two brothers; and a grandson.Graveside services will be Thursday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery, 53 West with Military Rites performed by members of the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 309 North Garfield, Pocatello, ID 83204.
