Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Pinon Cemetery for Dwayne "Slim" Stewart of Weed, NM.Mr. Stewart, 86, passed away on October 28, 2017, in Artesia, NM.Don Brown will officiate at the service. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his friends.Dwayne was born on January 17, 1931, in Caddo, Okla.; the son of Zed Stewart and Mattie (Begley) Stewart. He came to Artesia in 1951 from Canyon, Texas. On May 25, 1955 he married Alvaree Jernigan in Artesia. He was a rancher and a school teacher in Weed. Dwayne played basketball for the CVE Travellers which was part of the National Industrial Basketball League. He loved to watch his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and was known to always help with whatever project came up.He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 1 brother.Survivors include his wife Alvaree Stewart of Weed; sons Vaughn Teel (Doreen) of Weed and Boyd Stewart (Melissa) of Artesia; daughters AndaRee Pierce (Terry) of Pinon and Tana Steinback (Jim) of Artesia; sister Mattie Jo Russell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.Arrangements have been entrusted to Terpening & Son Mortuary.
