CEDARVILLE — Earl M. Chaplin, age 90 of Georgetown, formally of Cedarville passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Ohio Veteran's Home. He was born on November 4, 1924 to the late John A. and M. Agnes (Pape) Chaplin in Leesburg, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth Ellis Chaplin as well as two sisters, Sarah Jane Hoffer and Audrey Powers. He is survived by his two sons, Phillip and his wife Esther Chaplin of Georgetown and Eric Chaplin of Xenia; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Earl served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He retired from Navistar after 25 dedicated years. He was a lifetime member of the Cedarville American Legion post 544 and the Cedarville Masonic Lodge 622 as well as the Scottish Rite. Earl was a volunteer firefighter at the Cedarville Fire Department and served 14 years as fire chief. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Cedarville United Presbyterian Church with Masonic Services at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at North Cemetery where military honors will be performed by the United States Navy.
