Earl Johnson, Sr., the son of the late Joe and Mary Johnson was born on November 13, 1937 in Lake Bulter, FL. He was the 4th of 7 children. The family moved to Winter Garden when he was very young. He met the love of his life, Mary E. Williams Johnson, while living in Winter Garden, FL. He attended Jones High School in Orlando, FL. Earl and Mary were married on September 11, 1956. They were married for 60 years and made their home in Daytona Bch. Four daughters and two sons were born to this union. He was a very special man who spent his life loving and providing for his family. He lived his life in such a way that many will remember him and few will forget him. He was a humble giving man, who believed in helping others and supporting his community. It is no coincidence that his last day on earth was Thanksgiving Day. Those who will cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Mary Johnson, Daytona Bch; his daughters, Cheryll Johnson Tate (Odie), Indianapolis, IN; Sharlyn Johnson Clark (Tony, deceased), Daytona Bch, FL; Carla Johnson, Valerie Johnson, Daytona Bch; his sons, Earl Johnson, Palm Coast, FL, Lyndon Johnson, Daytona Bch; 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; three brothers: Sylvester Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Daniel Johnson; a sister Myra Lampkins. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers, Reverend Wilbur Johnson and William Johnson. While in Winter Garden, at an early age, Earl found a love and passion for working on cars. He turned this passion into a lifetime career and became one of the most skilled mechanics in the community, opening Earl's Shell in 1988. He was fortunate to work in a career that truly brought him joy. The location of Earl's Shell was much more than a place of business. It was a place where men came to gather and shared a brotherhood that emerged into many lifetime friendships. Earl was a man of great wisdom who shared his stories and gave his advice to the young and the old (whether they wanted it or not). Earl's Shell will be missed because of the fellowship, the brotherhood, and the man that had the vision to make his business much more than a gas station. It was a meeting place for some who looked forward to the daily fellowship and brotherhood. In lieu of flowers the family requests that you consider donating to the Halifax Health Hospice in his name for their wonderful care; Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129 386-425-7901.
