Sawyer, Ed C. Ed C. Sawyer, 90, of Safford, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Mt. Graham Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 11, 1926, in Glasgow, MT, to W.C. "Tom" Sawyer and Alleen Robertson Sawyer. His family moved to Willcox, AZ in 1927 where he spent his childhood. Later they moved to the Phoenix area where his mother and father taught. He graduated from Mesa High School in 1944 after which he joined the U.S. Navy and honorably served for 2 years. He moved to Phoenix in 1947 where he met and married the love of his life Angie. In 1958 the family moved to Bisbee where he established Copper City Electric. During this time he was elected State Commander of the American Legion. In 1970 he moved to Safford and opened Industrial Electric Service, which he operated with his son Dennis until the present time. He served 12 years in the Arizona State House of Representatives. For 8 years he was in the State Senate where he was elected for one term as President. He is preceded in death by Angie, his wife of 69 years, daughter-in-law Debbi, and grandson Jason. He is survived by his daughter Bette (Al) Newman; sons Tom (Cindy), Ed, Dennis, Greg, great grandson Cameron; 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. An 8:00 viewing followed by a eulogy at 8:30 and a mass at 9:00 will be held Saturday, June 10, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 311 S. Central Ave., Safford, AZ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gila Valley Rotary Club for the Ed and Angie Sawyer Service Awards.
