Ed L. "Jake" Maxwell, Jr.January 12, 1927 - September 6, 2015Ed Lee "Jake" Maxwell Jr., age 88 died September 6, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Caldwell. A private interment will be at the Wilder Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. 459-3629. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.comEd was born on January 12, 1927 at Caldwell, Idaho, the son of Ed Lee Sr. and Isel Mae Shields Maxwell.He was given the nickname of Jake early on and is best known by it.He attended Wilder schools and graduated president of the class of 1945. While in school, he lettered in baseball, basketball and football and was also active in music. He played saxophone and clarinet in the school band and orchestra and also played in a dance band.He was in the US Army and served as Sergeant during World War II and was honorably discharged October 18, 1946 at Fort Mead, Maryland.He married Virginia Mae Karn on December 7, 1947, at Wilder, Idaho.They lived and farmed NE of Wilder and in 1967 they moved to their adjoining farm east of Wilder where they have since lived.They were parents of a beloved daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Lee, who was named for both parents.Jake was an active member of the United Methodist Church and held office of Trustee several terms; was a member of the Wilder Masonic Lodge #83, A.F. & A.M.; member of the Wilder School Board; alternate director of the Nyssa/Nampa Beet Growers Association; president of the Hop Growers of Idaho; vice-president of Hop Growers of America; co-chairman of the Wilder Community Auction; member of Caldwell B.P.O.E. (Elks); and member of the Idaho Cattle Feeders Association. Jake was co-owner of Arena Cattle Company and was a successful farmer.Jake had a great appreciation for music, often saying what a dull and dreary world it would be without the joy of music, and continued his love for it by playing sax in the Don Roblyer dance band in Caldwell as well as singing in the Wilder Masonic / Methodist Men's Quartet for several years. In later years, he enjoyed playing the organ and sax at home.Jake adored his family and was extremely proud of his two grandchildren, Suzanne Denise Church Bauscher and Michael Edward Church.He and Virginia attended their many school and college events and ballgames, and enjoyed many fun activities with them. And in later years, enjoyed many precious moments with their spouses and great-grand children - Ryan Bauscher, Lauren Church, and Megan Church.He looked forward to the yearly fishing trips with his son, grandsons, and great grandson.Jake loved the outdoors - the mountains and lakes and especially enjoyed fishing, water skiing, swimming, and golf. He loved sports, as a participant or as a fan. He and Virginia also loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips together.Jake was a very kind and generous man who loved life and people. His great personality endeared him to his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 68 years, Virginia Mae, his daughter Virginia "Ginny Lee" and her husband Tom Church of Wilder; his granddaughter, Suzanne Denise Bauscher and her husband, Dr. Brett Bauscher of Caldwell; grandson Michael Edward Church and his wife Alison Church of Hood River, OR; his great-grandson Ryan Thomas Bauscher of Caldwell; his great-granddaughters Lauren Ramey Church and Megan Lee Church of Hood River, OR; his sister Larea Lefler of Royal City, WA; and numerous much loved nephews and nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Chet Maxwell and Bill Maxwell; his sisters, Claris Runger, Gladys Quigley, Juanita Snow, Lois Mercer, Oleta Roark, Nona Fischer, and Lucille "Sally" Grant.The family would like to especially thank Brenda with Heart and Home Hospice and Dr. Scott Bressler for their loving care during the last few months of Jake's life.Memorials may be made to the , the Wilder Fire District EMS/Quick Response, or Heart and Home Hospice of Caldwell.
