XENIA — Eddie L. Mitchell 84 years old, passed away quietly on Friday June 10, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. Eddie was born on 20 October 1931 to Ivy Mitchell (Father) and Addie Lee Smith (Mother) in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. Eddie pledged Phi Beta Sigma while attending Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale Mississippi where he studied culinary arts. Eddie served as a campus police officer at Wilberforce University for several years and worked until he retired as a senior member of the maintenance department at Central State University. During his retirement Eddie focused on his passions in life; spending time with his wife Lee, cooking and gardening. Eddie was a dedicated family man and a active member of First United Christian Church in Xenia. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife and companion of over 35 years Lee Ella Mitchell, Ivy Mitchell (Father), Addie Lee Smith (Mother), Van Smith (Maternal Grandfather), Vercie Mitchell (Brother). Eddie is survived by his sister Mary (Walter) Branch (Memphis TN), brother Dan Mitchell (Macon GA); Daughters Deborah A. (Don E.) Dixon of Xenia, OH, Diane Mardis (Detroit), Diane Mitchell (Mound Bayou MS), Lisa (John) Robinson, Lora Stephens, Janet Mitchell; Sons Andy Mitchell and Eddie Mitchell Jr. (All of Chicago, IL); Aunt Anna Lee Bryant (MS), Uncles Van and James Smith; 21 Grand Children, 35 Great Grand-Children, 1 Great-Great-Grand Child. Service for Eddie L. Mitchell will be held 1:00 PM on Friday June 17, 2016 at First United Christian Church, 626 N. Columbus Street, Xenia, Ohio 45385. Family will receive visitors from 12 PM until 1 PM followed by the home going service. Services are in care of McColaugh Funeral Home 826 N. Detroit St. Xenia, Ohio 45385.
