Eddie H. PurvisLEWISTOWNEddie H. Purvis, 61, formerly of Lewistown, passed away at his residence in York on Sunday, January 31, 2016.Eddie was born on August 27, 1954, in Syracuse, N.Y., and is the son of Norman Purvis and the late Thelma (Hyde) Purvis.He is survived by his daughter, Brittany and her husband, TJ Deckman of Lewistown; son, Kyle Purvis of Lewistown; and grandchildren, Donovan, Amara, and Jenny. He is also survived by his siblings, Adelbert (Del) Purvis and his wife, Joan, Mary Purvis, and James Purvis and his wife, Kathryn, all of New York; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his Grandma, Rena Purvis.Eddie served as a Salvation Army Officer from 1984 – 2006 at various locations, which included Oneida, N.Y., Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Oneonta, N.Y., and Lewistown, Pa. Eddie volunteered for The Salvation Army in York in several capacities: teaching his Adult Sunday School Class (his passion), and providing transportation on Sundays for services and during the Christmas " Kettle" Season. He also volunteered in the Development Department on his days off. He was a member of the "Old Timers" baseball team in York. He was previously a member of the Rotary Club in Lewistown for 12 years.Eddie's personal relationship with Jesus Christ was his life's mission, which was shared through his loving and compassionate spirit with all he met. He loved his family deeply. He liked to camp, fish, golf, and read- especially about sports and American History. He brought joy and happiness to those around him.A viewing will be held at the Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown, on Friday, February 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. His funeral will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., on Saturday, February 6, at 10 a.m. with Majors Dennis and Erma Camuti officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rock Cemetery in Lewistown.There will be a memorial service held in his honor at The Salvation Army in York, with date to be determined.
