Edith M. Avallone passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the age of 87 after a long illness. She was born on August 1, 1929 in Montclair, New Jersey.Edith moved from West Nyack, New York to Las Cruces with her husband and children in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from NMSU in 1970 and completed her Masters in Sociology at NMSU in 1978. She worked as a caseworker for the 3rd Judicial District Court's Juvenile Probation Department.Edith is survived by her husband of 66 years, Anthony F. Avallone; six children, Mary E. Apodaca of Las Cruces, Elizabeth A. Smith of Lamy, Claire M. Avallone of T or C, Frank P. Avallone of Silver City, Anthony V. Avallone of Alto, and Michael A. Avallone of Las Cruces; nineteen grandchildren, Michael Calderazzo, Steven Calderazzo, Edward Calderazzo, Alyssa Davila, Natisha Hales, Thomas Avallone, Anna Klint Garcia, Juniper Smith, Claudia Smith Bell, Donald Wofford, Beth Avallone, Rachel Eager, Caty Avallone, Marie Ellyson, Elizabeth Ferris, Angela Townsend, Anthony V. Avallone, Jr., Danyale Avallone, and Joseph D. Avallone, Jr.; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Camille Avallone and Joseph D. Avallone.A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2017 @ 11:00am at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 518 Alameda Blvd., Las Cruces, NM, with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
