A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. at Chauvin Funeral Home, 899 LA Hwy 311, Houma for Edith Kay Maier Singh. Father Craig Dalferes of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Houma, will officiate. Edith died peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 18, 2015, at Sunrise of Be Air, in Richmond, VIrginia.Edith was born on March 11, 1935, in Mathews, Louisiana, to Emile A. and Myrtle Koenig Maier. She graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1953, from LSU with honors in 1957, then earned a Master's Degree in textile fiber chemistry from Cornell University in 1959. She was employed with Union Carbide in West Virginia, then later with E.I. duPont de Nemours in the Charlottesville, Virginia, area. Following several years with duPont, she left her employment there to pursue real estate interests in the Charlottesville area, where she lived for most of her adult life.Edith enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, flowers, traveling, and going for long walks. During her adult years she traveled extensively around the world with her husband Prem.Edith is survived by her brothers, Donald E. Maier and his wife Susan, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Alan O. Maier and his wife Virginia, of Lafayette, Louisiana. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews and five great nephews.Edith was preceded in death by her parents and her former husband, Prem P. Singh.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Organ Fund, or to the .Chauvin Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
