LAURINBURG — Mrs. Edith Locklear Strickland, 81, passed away at her home on Jan. 4, 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Oak Grove Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
Edith was born on May 4, 1924 in Scotland County, daughter of the late James Franklin Locklear and Bertha Lee Richardson Locklear. She was the loving wife to the late Velvet Strickland. She was a homemaker and retired from Toastmaster, Inc. after 33 years of service.
She served as a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and loved spending time with her family and helping others.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Bobby Locklear, her brothers Herman Locklear, Richard Locklear, Prentiss Richardson, Spencer Locklear, John Locklear, and Edward Locklear and sisters Ella Smith, Nellie Strickland, Bertha Smith and Elizabeth Reece.
Edith is survived by her daughter Mertia F. Revels, brothers Lloyd "Ray" Locklear (Mildred), Claude Locklear (Jean), and Wilbert Locklear (Georgia), sisters Velma Strickland (Bracey), Shelby Locklear, and Lois Richardson, her grandchildren: Jessica Revels, Megan Revels, Eric Locklear, Brad Locklear, and Allen Michael Locklear, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
