Edmond J. P. Dionne; 84Owned Ed's Service Station in Lunenburg, MA LUNENBURG -- Edmond J.P. Dionne, 84, of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, when the checkered flag went down on his 84th lap.Ed, the son of the late Walter A. and Marie A. (Gagne) Dionne, was born on August 24, 1932, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. From a young age Ed always chose to step on the gas instead of the breaks. He loved to retell stories of his rebellious youth which earned him the nickname "Trouble". In his early 20s, Ed worked for Foster Grant as a machinist. On January 1, 1964, Ed struck out on his own as a business owner, despite warnings that he would fail and return within the year. His mechanical genius and resourcefulness helped him succeed as the proprietor for Ed's Service Station, now in its 53rd year of business on Mass. Ave in Lunenburg. Ed's trademarks, stubbornness and the knack for telling it like it is, will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many customers and friends of the garage.Ed was a connoisseur of all things automotive, his timeline recorded by the cars he drove. The changing seasons were marked by car shows and motorcycle rides, by state fairs and outdoor flea markets. As an avid NASCAR fan, Ed cheered on the intimidator and picked drivers for the Daytona 500. He loved traveling through the country in his Winnebago and spending time down at Myrtle Beach with his best friend Cheryl. Above all else, Ed had an unshakable loyalty and love for his family. "Pepere" loved playtime with grandkids, sharing his toy trucks and trading teddy bears. His favorite times of year were the holidays where he was generous to a fault with gifts, and adamant about home cooked meals with his family. At home he will always be remembered for his youthful smile, his squeezing hugs and his devotion to the ones he loved.Ed is survived by his loving companion of 11 years, Cheryl Dyer and the Dyer family; his beloved son, Steven W. Dionne and his wife, Anne M. (LeBlanc) Dionne all of Lunenburg; his granddaughter, Kelly Arcacha and her husband, Eric Arcacha of Lincoln, RI; and his loving nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 52 years, Nancy (Roiko) Dionne in 2003, his grandson, Michael Dionne in 2001, and his siblings, Theresa Maki, Estelle Arsenault, and Alfred Dionne.DIONNE -- Mr. Dionne's Funeral will be held on Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Mass.
