Edna M. (Linskey) Gately, 99, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2017 at St Teresa's Nursing Center. She was born on July 31, 1917 in Cambridge, MA to the late William and Anne (Gormley) Linskey. She was educated in the Cambridge School System. Edna worked at the United Fruit Co in Boston, MA where she met her future husband, Bernard T. Gately. A fond memory she carried from United Fruit Co was winning a cruise to Cuba in the 1930's. Edna married Bernard in 1945, shortly after his return to the US after World War II, where he had been a prisoner of war in Germany. They settled in Natick, MA. In 1968, Edna and Bernie moved to Manchester. A devout Catholic, Edna was very involved with St Catherine's Church in Manchester. She was a member of the Woman's Guild and the church choir. She was also a Eucharistic minister and taught CCD classes for many years. Edna served on the Board of Directors of The Webster House for several years. Edna is survived by four sons; Thomas and wife Cindy of Englewood, FL; Bernard and wife Shari of San Diego, CA; Paul and wife Rita of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Joseph and wife Meredith of Deerfield, NH; and one daughter Mary Desmarais of Merrimack, NH. Edna leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Edna was predeceased by her husband of 58 years and a daughter, Carol Ann. Services: Calling hours will be Sunday March 5, 2017 from 2PM to 6PM at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., Manchester, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St Joseph's Cathedral, 245 Lowell St, Manchester, NH at 10AM, Monday, March 6, 2017. Burial will follow in the St Joseph's Cemetery, Bedford, NH. The family requests that donations be made to St Teresa's Nursing Center, 519 Bridge St., Manchester, NH 03104. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St Teresa's for the many years of loving care extended to our mother.
