Obituary for Edward P. Gaffny III
Edward P. Gaffny III, of Newton, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly on December 2, 2024, after a short illness. Known for his remarkable achievements and his generous spirit, Edward leaves behind his cherished children, Hannah Gaffny and Edward P. Gaffny IV. He was preceded in death by his three beloved daughters, Isabella, Sophia, and Gianna, in 2015, and his step-sister, Krista Bebezas, who passed away in February 2024.
Edward is survived by his father, Edward Gaffny; his stepmother, Rosemarie Gaffny; his sister, Erin Gaffny of Hampton, NH; and his stepbrothers, Greg and Alexi Bebezas.
A celebrated athlete, Edward was inducted into the Salem High School Wrestling Hall of Fame. As a two-time state champion and recipient of the Outstanding Wrestler award, he set the standard for excellence in New Hampshire wrestling. His success continued at the collegiate level, where he earned an NCAA Division II National Championship.
Edward’s passion for the sport extended into his role as a coach with Nashua Gate City Wrestling, where he mentored young athletes with dedication and compassion. He often donated wrestling shoes, mats, and other resources to support local programs. In 2016, he made a monumental contribution of over a million dollars to build the Salem High School wrestling facility, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
Professionally, Edward was a pioneer in the stormwater industry. His innovative inventions significantly advanced efforts to combat water pollution, earning him widespread recognition and respect in his field.
Edward’s commitment to his community was evident in his many charitable endeavors throughout the Merrimack Valley. His generosity and leadership made a profound impact on countless lives.
In August 2024, Edward fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a home in Newton, Massachusetts, where he was excited to embark on a new chapter surrounded by family and friends.
A service celebrating Edward’s extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Breen Funeral Home in North Andover, Massachusetts. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Edward are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to youth athletic programs or environmental conservation initiatives in Edward’s name. His legacy of kindness, achievement, and selflessness will be forever remembered.
