Edward Allen Turner1927-2015Edward Allen Turner, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with the Lord on Sept. 1, 2015. He was born on July 9, 1927 in Boston, Massachusetts to Edward and Lila Turner. His parents and four sisters all preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by Rosemary, his first wife of 57 years, and by his youngest son, Michael Farrington Turner. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Paula; daughter Margie Cude and husband Darwin; Son Edward and wife Lucy; daughter Mary Ellen Hall and husband Willard; and daughter-in-law Sandi Turner. Also surviving are his step-daughter Jenny Welker and husband Richard; and step-son Michael Brown and wife Elizabeth. Ed was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and after discharge attended the University of Houston receiving a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. In 1992 he was given the Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award and was inducted into the Cullen College of Engineering Hall of Distinction at the University, an honor of which he was quite proud. After 38 years of service, Ed retired from Houston Lighting and Power Co. with the title of Senior Vice President – Assistant to the President. Although he advanced in the company to upper management, Ed never let his position stop him from being on a first name basis with all the people he associated with at HL&P where there was always a common respect. Ed always said, "It's the people that make the power." Another thing that meant a great deal to Ed was that at HL&P he was referred to as "the company Christian". That was a title he was proud to bear.Ed loved the Lord and loved being involved in his church. He was a charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and served on many of the boards. He was very proud of his role as co-chairman of the Building Committee for the sanctuary and office addition. One of the groups he enjoyed the most at church was being a member of the HOGS (Happy Old Geezer Society). The HOGS' dedication and service to the church, and their friendship and commitment to one another was a source of pride and honor for Ed.Ed was also involved with many non-profit organizations in the community, serving on boards or advisory councils. His dedication to the employment of people with disabilities earned him a proclamation by the Mayor of Houston, making October 10, 1991 "Ed Turner Day". He was heavily involved with the American Cancer Society, the Houston Blood Center and the University of Houston, to name a few.Family and friends meant everything to Ed. His friends were God-fearing church people and he was extremely proud that all the members of his family knew the Lord, and, that in his absence God will care for them and comfort them. There are so many people Ed would like to thank for always being there for him, for their constant support, encouragement, love and prayers. He was so blessed that the list would just be too long to include here, but you know who you are, and you can wear that friendship as a badge and a blessing from Ed.A Memorial Service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 1612 Meadow Edge Drive, Spring, TX 77388 on Wed., Sept. 23rd at 11:00 a.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to or Lutheran Social Services of Texas, P.O.
