Edward Bruce FechLansingAge 84, the beloved husband of Barbara and our remarkable father and grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Bruce was born on April 3, 1933 in East Chicago, Indiana, the son of Edward and Thresa Fech. He was a dedicated member of St. Gerard Parish, Lansing, Michigan. In 1956 after serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, Bruce married Barbara Krajnik and became a teacher. His commitment to Catholic education led him to become the Director of Education for the Diocese of Lansing from 1973 -1994. Following retirement, Bruce and Barbara spent a year in Slovakia, teaching, traveling and researching family genealogy. His research led him to publish 24 Volumes of a quarterly family newsletter, Our Family: Yesterday and Today, which are recorded at both the Cape May New Jersey Genealogical Library and in the Allen County Genealogical Society of Indiana and are cherished by his family around the globe. Bruce was a quiet man of faith who was devoted to his family. He was an intelligent, caring, selfless man with a great sense of humor and those who knew him felt blessed to have been a part of his life. He never missed a birthday, graduation, wedding or a family get together. He put everyone before himself, and kept his large, extended family connected worldwide through his newsletter, emails and handwritten notes. Bruce truly embraced being the loving patriarch of our family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thresa, brothers Dale and Brian and sister Elaine (Fech) Ostrowski. Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara; 6 children, Lynn (Phil) Lynwood, Julie, Bruce (Linda), Mark (Kelli), Barb (Greg) Geahan, and Carl (Terri); 14 grandchildren, Nick, Katie (Rex), Joe (Desiree), Matt, Jordan (Jason), Alex, Phillip, Carl, Kelci (Heath), Treven, Ciarah, Eric, Kaley and Lauren; 5 great grandchildren Nate, Jack, Genevieve, Illianna and Brianna.The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on April 17, 2017 at St. Gerard Catholic Church 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing, Michigan with Most Rev. Carl Mengeling officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 12:00 at the church until service time at the church. Bruce was a teacher and scholar who devoted his life's work to Catholic education. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Diocese of Lansing Catholic Foundation, in memory of Bruce.
