Edward H. Callies, Jr. - SAVANNAH - Edward H. Callies, Jr., 89, peacefully passed away on December 7, 2016. Ed was a resident of Savannah, GA with Fairfield, CT, New Canaan, CT and Naperville, IL previous residencies. Ed was born on June 14, 1927 in Chicago, IL and shortly thereafter moved to Park Ridge, IL. While in seventh grade, at the ripe age of 13, he was fortunate to meet Alice Larson who would become his loving wife for 67 years. Following graduation from Main Township High School, he enlisted in the Navy at the tail end of WWII and discharged in 1946. Through the GI Bill, Ed was fortunate to attend Northwestern University on graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree He joined Victor Chemical after graduation, specializing in engineering and commercial development, and rose to head of divisional national sales early in his career. Ed ascended through a series of senior roles at Stauffer Chemical after it purchased Victor Chemical in 1959. At the time of his retirement from Stauffer in 1986, he was global manager of chemical intermediates sales and marketing. Ed capped his career as co-founder of Catamount Group, a consultancy whose insights on agrichemical market structure and strategy were widely respected by major manufacturers in the US, Europe, and Japan. When not working, Ed was spending his time being an energetic, supportive father to his children Christine and John or indulging in his passions with woodworking, fishing/hunting and of course playing golf. He was a long time member of the Patterson Club in Fairfield, CT and The Landings Club in Savannah, GA. He is survived by his wife, Alice; two children, Chris and John; his grandchildren, Daniel, Beth Goltz, Ryan, and his great-grandchildren, Caroline Callies and Owen Goltz. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue. The memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. C. Jeffrey Garrison. Interment will be private.
