Edward Webster, 96, died on March 16, 2017, at Covenant Health Center in Lubbock, Texas. Ed was born on October 4, 1920, in Mount Morris, IL, to Charles and Minnie Webster. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Illinois, College of Mechanical Engineering. He served his country during World War II as an Airforce pilot. While stationed at the Carlsbad Arm Airfield, he met and married Maxine Jones, daughter of an Eddy County pioneer ranching family. After the war, Ed returned to Carlsbad and took a job at the Potash Company of America in the engineering department. He later moved to International Minerals and ChemicalCorporation, where he remained for 38 years, 25 as an employee plus 13 as a self-employed contract engineer. All told, he spent over 50 years in the potash mining industry. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hiking, cave exploration and arrowheahunting in the Guadalupe Mountains and surrounding desert. He was a life member of theCarlsbad
Elks Lodge and a long-time member of the Carlsbad Duplicate Bridge Club. He waspreceded in death by his wife, Maxine, parents, and brother. He is survived by a daughter, Judy,a son, George and wife Kathy of Midland, Texas, granddaughter, Beth of Midland, Texas, andgrandson, Gabriel Donihi and great grandson Phoenix, both of Haiku, Hawaii. He is alsosurvived by his long-time friend and companion, Margaret Bilbrey, of Carlsbad.At Ed's request, there will be no visitation or public service, but rather a private familyceremony.
