Briesemeister, Edward F.Edward Frank Briesemeister "Breeize", 91, formerly of Neenah, died Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Wisconsin Veterans Home, King. He was born on May 22, 1925, in Milwaukee to the late Frank and Eleanor (Scherbarth) Briesemeister. At the age of 9 he moved to Rio and lived on the Boge farm, Ed went to Gilbert School and graduated from 8th grade. After graduation he worked as a farm-hand for various farmers, he was also employed by Erving Schultz in Leeds at a filling station, hauled milk and drove truck. He was drafted into the military in 1943 and sent to boot camp in Texas, then sent to Fort Bragg in North Carolina where he joined the Army in the 100th infantry division. In the winter of 1944, he was sent to Mars, France where they fought their way across France in to Germany, across Germany to Munich. At the time they were known as occupational troops, the troops were there to keep order. In 1945, he received his first bronze star for his service in combat and as a squad leader. Ed returned to the states in 1946, where he hauled milk and worked at Gisholt's in Madison as a machinist. In 1947, he decided to re-enlist into the Army Air Force, after a year with the Army Air Force he was sent to Alaska. In 1948, the Army Air Force split in to individual sections so he decided to join the Army. He was sent to Italy where he met the love of his life, Elli Dwornik, and also where he earned his second bronze star. Ed was sent to mechanical engineering school while in Germany so he purchased a jeep for $500.00 so he would be able to drive back and forth to see Elli. In 1950, Ed and Elli were united in marriage, in Italy. Ed returned to the states in 1950, and later that year Elli was able to join him as well as their dog Pal in the spring of 1951.They made their home in Milwaukee where Ed worked for A & P Grocery as the dairy manager, he then started part-time schooling in electronics, while still working for A & P Grocery. He then worked for the Dictaphone Agency in Madison, from there he was transferred to Stevens Point, where they purchased a mobile home and lived at a trailer park in Wausau, from there they moved to Appleton. Ed and Elli sold their mobile home in 1966, and built their home in Neenah. After 16 years with the Dictaphone Agency he worked for Taylor Instrument, retiring in 1986. Ed also received another bronze star in 2010, he wasn't sure why.Ed is survived by his step mother, Bertha Briesemeister; three sisters: Bernice Thiele, Evelyn Tomczak and Virginia Olson; nieces, a nephew, friends and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his wife Elli on November 15, 2013; a sister, Gladys (James) Hon and brothers-in-law, Edward Thiele, George Tomczak and Larry Olson.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 19, 2017, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 809 S Commercial Street, Neenah with Pastor Jon Gallatin officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the church until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, full military honors will be presented by active duty members of the U.S. Army and the Neenah-Menasha Veterans Honors Team.
