This obituary is administered by:
MIDDLEBURY - Edward Francis Lundrigan, known as "Bud," passed away on July 26, 2017, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 93. Bud was born on Jan. 13, 1924, in Brandon, Vermont. After graduating from Brandon High School, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He served under General Patton as a Pfc, in Company K of the 180th Infantry Regiment of the 45th Infantry Division. He served in the European front and was waiting to board a ship to Japan when the war ended. After his discharge, Bud traveled to New York City where he graduated from barber school. Upon returning to Brandon, Bud married Rhondalee Nichols in 1948. They moved to Middlebury where Bud joined his Uncle Ed Center in the barber business. Bud soon became the owner of Bud's Barber Shop where locals and personalities such as Robert Frost and Johnny Cash joined in haircutting conversations covering politics to town news. Bud kept the discussions going for over 60 years. Bud was an active member of the Middlebury community. He spent weekends cutting hair at Helen Porter Nursing Home, Porter Hospital, Elderly Services or going to a client's home to bring the news, as well as trim the hair. Bud was a lifetime member of the Middlebury Fire Department and the last living member of A.N.D.R.E. He was a member of the Middlebury American Legion, Middlebury VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He was an usher, served on the cemetery committee and in his retirement years, an altar server, at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption. He was an avid sports enthusiast and supporter of local sports programs in Middlebury. Bud was a ardent golfer and enjoyed playing into his 90s. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Anna (Center) Lundrigan; his wife, Rhodalee (Nichols); two sisters, Margaret Purcell and Ruth Rantanen. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Garreth Parizo (Kevin), and son, Shawn (Joyce); four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a nephew and many cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care, as well as the staff at Pillsbury Manor South, South Burlington, Vermont. There are no calling hours per Bud's request. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Middlebury on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Luke Austin as the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with The Fireman's Last Call and military honors presented at that time. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church Choir/Music Fund or Cemetery Fund at 326 College St., Middlebury, VT 05753. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.sandersonfuneralservice.com.
