Edward J. LoudAGE: 87 • Wall TownshipEdward J. Loud, Wall Township, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a longtime pillar of the Monmouth County community, passed away at Bayshore Community Hospital on Thursday, April 27, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, three days after suffering a stroke.Ed was born on March 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Edward F. and Ella Loud, and grew up in Ridgewood, Brooklyn. He is a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School and St. John's University in New York. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 in Japan and Korea.Ed was working at the Federal Reserve Bank in New York when he met his wife Elizabeth "Joan" Pettersen, whom he married in 1958. Joan and Ed moved to Matawan Township (now Aberdeen) in 1963, where they were one of the original families in the Strathmore development and raised their three children. Ed was a longtime, active parishioner at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church.Ed worked for more than 37 years for the Amoco Oil Company, retiring in 1992. But retirement from the workforce did not mean any lessening of his activities. Ed and Joan moved to Four Seasons at Wall in 1998, where they enjoyed their retirement filled with travel and time spent with family and friends.Ed served for many years on the Monmouth County Board of Recreation Commissioners, including terms as chairman and vice chair, and took great pride in helping to preserve Monmouth County Parks for the residents of and visitors to the county.Ed's many community activities include his chairmanship of the Aberdeen Township Planning Board, presidency of the Monmouth County Affiliated Republican Club, and chairmanship of the Aberdeen Township Recreation Advisory Board. He served as treasurer of the Aberdeen Township Republican Executive Committee and was a member of the Aberdeen Township Republican Club for 20 years. He was a founder, coach, director and league officer of the Aberdeen Township Youth Athletic Association. He was a member of the Wall Township Environmental Advisory Committee, the Knights of Columbus Council 5324, and the American Legion post at Four Seasons. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore.Ed was predeceased by his wife Joan. Ed is survived by son Edward (Ted) Loud of Washington, DC; son, Timothy and daughter-in-law Adrienne of Brooklyn; daughter, Elizabeth Loud-Hayward and son-in-law Christopher Hayward of Aberdeen; four grandsons, Daniel and Nicholas Loud, and Colin and Griffin Hayward; and his cherished cousins, nieces and nephews and extended family and many dear friends and neighbors.Visitation Sunday April 30, 2017 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
