Edward James Senini Sr., 87, passed away Wednesday, November 26th, 2014 in Yuma, Arizona of natural causes. He was born on April 21, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to John Louis and Alco Senini, the oldest of four children; he was preceded in death by his sister, Irene (Gabriel) Berrafato and his brother, John. L. "Jack" (Dorris) Senini, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Elaine (Tom) O'Toole of Phoenix, AZ.He graduated from Loyola Academy Jesuit High School in Chicago and then served in the U.S Navy in 1945. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce from Loyola University in Chicago in 1949 and then joined his father John L. Senini in the produce business as a broker. He moved to Yuma, Arizona in 1951 where he established Senini Arizona Inc., a growing, packing and lettuce shipping company. He later established Senini Farming Company specializing in premium produce shipped throughout the United States and Canada. At its peak, Senini Farming employed hundreds of people in Yuma and Willcox, AZ, Salinas, CA and Alamosa, CO. He was innovative being one of the first companies to clean and wrap lettuce in the field and one of the first to grow broccoli in the Yuma area. Ed operated Senini Farming Company until his retirement in 1994.Ed had been a member of the Western Growers Association and was a former member of the Yuma Golf and Country Club. He enjoyed the martial arts and achieved his second degree black belt in Okinawa Kempo Karate and participated in weekly yoga classes and the Yuma Fitness Center. He also enjoyed competing in chess tournaments at the Yuma Chess Club.Edward J. Senini, Sr. is survived by his wife, Vita; her children, Analyn Renner Dunnehoo, and Anthony Renner; and his children, John, Lori, Beth, Robert, Teresa. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Courtney, Jessica, Jennifer, Katherine, Natalie, Billy, Samantha, Tony, Alex, Robby and James. He is preceded in death by his sons Edward J. Senini, Jr. and Mark A. Senini.A Memorial for Edward J. Senini, Sr. will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Johnson Mortuary from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.In lieu of flowers and in honor of Ed's kind heart, his family requests donations to the Humane Society of Yuma on 4050 South Avenue 4 1/2 E, or the Yuma Food Bank on 2404 E 24th Street.
