Edward Joseph Burke Jr.Woodmere - Edward Joseph Burke Jr. of Woodmere, New York passed away on Thursday, October 5th, in Austin, Texas, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 29th, 1956 in Poughkeepsie, New York to Ed and Dolores Burke, and was raised there until the family moved to Austin in 1980. He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High school and went to Bryant College in Rhode Island where he obtained a degree in business admiration. Growing up Eddie excelled in sports and was a true athlete. He enjoyed football, swimming, and skiing; however he was a natural when it came to baseball, and golf. As a boy, Eddie played baseball in Poughkeepsie. He threw three no hitters and set the IBM League record for home runs. Eddie went on to play baseball and golf for Our Lady of Lourdes High School. After high school, he played golf for Dutchess Community College where he earned all-conference recognition in the Mid-Hudson Conference. Following Dutchess Community College, Eddie went on to play golf at Bryant University. After graduating from college, Eddie made golf his career. He became a Class A PGA Professional and worked at IBM Country Club, Garrison Golf Club, West Hampton Country Club and Woodmere Country Club. Eddie worked as an instructional professional at Woodmere Country Club for 29 years, where he was respected and admired by many of the members. He also excelled as a player and winning many local tournaments and playing in 1983 and 1992 Westchester Classics on the PGA Tour. Eddie is survived by his parents, Dolores and Ed Burke of Austin, TX, siblings: Barbara Saintomas, Jude Burke, and Martin Burke of Austin, TX, Dan Burke, Kevin Burke (wife Cindy) of San Antonio, TX, and a handful of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14th, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Austin, TX. Immediately following will be the inurnment and then a reception at the PAC center at St. Thomas More. Elmer Holtman, and all of Ed's friends for being so supportive.
