KEIDELEdward F. ("Ted") Keidel, Jr., beloved son, brother and uncle died on July 19, 2017 at his residence at Mapleknoll Village in Glendale. Son of Edward F. and Catherine M. Keidel, Ted was born on May 31, 1923 and except for his service during
World War II, resided his entire life in the Cincinnati area. A graduate of Purcell High School, Ted Keidel was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Force on July 13, 1943, did his basic training in Florida and Mississippi, and shipped out from New York City to Liverpool, United Kingdom on the French Luxury Liner SS Louis Pasteur which had been converted into a troopship at the beginning of World War II. Ted rendered distinguished service as a Control Tower Operator for the 100th Bombardment Group Heavy at an Eighth Air Force base known as RAF Thorpe Abbotts located in Norfolk on the east coast of Great Britain. Thereafter Ted served in Italy and Athens, Greece and was honorably discharged on January 28, 1946, with citations including the Good Conduct Medal; European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one
Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. After service to his country, Mr. Keidel returned to Cincinnati where he worked in various fields including drafting and construction design.Ted was a lover of all things "Irish" and known for his piano playing skills, ready smile, easy going manner and incredible good nature. He was loved by all those whose lives he touched.Ted is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters Eleanor, Kathleen and Mary Augusta and his twin brother Gene. He is survived by his sister Edwina Wittrock (who resides in Rockville, Maryland) and numerous loving nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and 4 great grandnephews and 6 great grandnieces. Visitors may call on the family at St. Gabriel Church, 48 Sharon Road in Glendale at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. Mass of Eternal Rest will follow at 10:00 AM, with interment at a subsequent date at Calvary Cemetery.
