Schmitt, Edward L.,73, entered into eternal glory on Wednesday, June 28. He was born on July 25, 1943 to the late Clarence and Lillian (Scherer) Schmitt. He graduated from Dupont Manual High School in 1962 and went on to work as an Industrial Millwright for Corhart Refractories for 39 years. Edward was a long time member of Larchmont Church of God and Masonic Lodge 951. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph C. Schmitt. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Barbara Schmitt; children, Angela Murphy (David), Laura Smith (Danny), Edward Todd Schmitt (Michelle); step-children, Beth Jackson (Aubrey), Steve Purdon (Jody), Andrew Purdon (Heike), Paula Keller (Mike); a sister Diana Sims (Larry); 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends whose lives he deeply touched.The family will accept visitors on Sunday, July 2, from 1-8 pm at Arch L. Heady Southern Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Blvd . A service to celebrate Edward's life will be on Monday, July 3, at noon at the funeral home with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancery Society in Edward's honor. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at archlheadysouthernfh.com.
