Edward PlagensSt. LawrenceEdward Plagens, Jr., age 88, of St. Lawrence, Texas passed away on April 25, 2017. Rosary service is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Lawrence. Mass funeral service is at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Lawrence. Interment will follow in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. He was born on Sept. 21, 1928, in Brazos County, Texas to Edward and Victoria (Opresteny) Plagens. He proudly served his country in the United States Army fighting in the Korean War. His family moved to Wall, Texas in 1944 to farm cotton. In 1953 he married Bernadette Halfmann and they moved to St. Lawrence, Texas to continue farming cotton. Ed and Bernadette spent the rest of their years together in St. Lawrence where they raised their seven children. Ed's passions were his family, farming and hitting the big jackpot which he finally did when God called him home on April 25th. Edward is survived by his wife, Bernadette of 64 years; daughters, Debra Schwartz and husband, Ernie, Denice Batla and husband, Mike, Donna Goodwin and husband, Duke, Dinette Watkins and husband, Richard, Darla Brown and Deanna Plagens; daughter-in-law Connie Poulson and husband, Bob; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Milton Plagens, Frank Plagens, Earl Plagens and Robert Plagens. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Douglas Plagens; son-in-law, Coke Barton; granddaughter, Abigail Schwartz and brothers Norman Plagens, Clarence Plagens, Msgr.
