FREMONT — Edward L. "Eddie" Rakestraw, age 81, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015. He was born on Nov. 27, 1934, in Jamestown Township, Steuben County, Indiana, to Robert and Ruth (Albright) Rakestraw. He was a 1953 graduate of Fremont High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post No. 257. He retired from Simpson Industries (Metaldyne). He enjoyed IU basketball, fishing and gardening. He loved the Saturday morning breakfast with the gang, and especially enjoyed all the family get togethers at the lake. Survivors include his five children, Donna (George) Pinson, Alan Rakestraw, Julie (Rod) Ridenour, Kristina (Dave) Garrison, all of Fremont, Indiana, and Edward L. Rakestraw Jr., of Ashley, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Leanne (Andy) Lies, Skye Rakestraw, Jordan (Jeffrey) Kaufman, Christopher (Kara) Milholland, Chase Milholland, Alissa Garrison and Jenna Garrison; three great-grandchildren, Quinn, Lucy, and Ezra, and a great-grandchild on the way, Harper; a sister, Wilma (Robert) Burch of Fremont, Indiana; and two brothers, Donald (Karen) Rakestraw of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Jerry (Verna) Rakestraw of Fremont, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Waunita Foster; and a grandchild, Roxanne Marie. A celebration of life will be held from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at the Fremont American Legion Post No. 257, Fremont, Indiana. Military honors will be conducted by members of the post color guard. Memorials are requested to the Fremont American Legion Post # 257. Beams Funeral Home in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
