Hamilton Edwin Bray Hamilton, MD, was born on November 12, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio at White Cross Hospital. He passed away on November 10, 2016 at home in Worthington, Ohio. Ed was educated in the Upper Arlington Schools and while he was a senior in High School (Class of 1944), at age seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, he was enrolled at West Virginia University. He took two quarters of studies at WVU until he turned eighteen. He was then assigned to The United States Army of Occupation in Japan. Upon his discharge from the Army, Ed enrolled in a PreMed program at The Ohio State University. Ed was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Ed graduated from The OSU Medical School Class of 1952. Ed completed a Surgical Residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City and then he was Chief Surgical Resident at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital. Ed then returned to Columbus to practice with his father, Dr. Walter Hamilton, and later was joined by his brother Dr. Charles Hamilton. He volunteered for two months in the Andes Mountains of Peru with Project Hope. Ed was the Past Chairman of the Colon and Rectal Department at Riverside Hospital and Past President of The Columbus Surgical Society. He was a member of the Round Table of Medical Arts, an avid scuba diver and a member of The International Society of Aquatic Medicine. Ed was a supporter of the OSU Basketball team, and a member of The OSU President's Club and a Life member of The OSU Alumni Association, a fan of The Jazz Arts Group as well as The OSU Chadwick Arboretum (The Lois B. Small- Gladys B. Hamilton Labyrinth Garden). Ed was also a member of The Columbus Museum of Art and The Couples Book Club. Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Small Hamilton; and his five children, Rev. Penelope Kauffman (Christopher) Matthew Hamilton (Angella), Scott Hamilton (Katie), Dr. Jeffrey Hamilton (Suzanne.), Emily Mills (Kevin); and 11 grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea, Sam, lan, Sydney, Robbie, Katrina, Asher, Gabe, Hannah and Morgan. He is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Walter Hamilton (Millie) and Dr. James Hamilton (Merry); and many nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his parents Dr. Walter and Gladys (Suggie) Hamilton and his brother Dr. Charles Hamilton and sister Ann Hamilton Lewis. Together with Nancy, Ed traveled the world. A Celebration of Ed's life will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd from 6-9 p.m. at the Ohio State Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, Ohio.
