SENECA, SC – Colonel Edwin F. Rumsey passed away at Greenville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, May 22, 2016. A resident of Seneca, SC for almost 40 years, Rumsey was born on October 31, 1932 in Ithaca, NY, the son of Milton and Marie Becker Rumsey.
He had a longtime record of service, both in the military, where the 1955 United States Military Academy graduate served for 26 years as a United States Air Force pilot, and in the Republican party, where he served six years as chairman of the Oconee County Republican Party.
Rumsey held a master's degree in political science from Auburn University. The Vietnam veteran was a delegate to the National Republican Convention in 2008.
He was the husband of the late Nancy Hillyer Rumsey and is survived by his daughters Laura Rumsey Jennings and Linda Rumsey Suther (Brad Little) and his son Edwin Dwight Rumsey. His seven grandchildren are: Robert Ramsey "Zee" Jennings Jr. (Hallie Yarbrough Jennings); John Hillyer Jennings; Henry Campbell "Camp" Jennings; Edwin Ford "Win" Jennings; Chapman Gregory Suther; Isabel Taylor Rumsey and Caleb Boyer Rumsey. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Robert Ramsey Jennings III.
A local memorial service will be announced soon. His cremains will be interred at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.
