Legrand NibertROSWELL, NM: Elaine ("Jimmie") LeGrand Nibert, 91, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at her home in Roswell, New Mexico surrounded by her family.Elaine was born on June 14,1926, in Toledo, Ohio to Victor Henry LeGrand and Mildred Irene Brown LeGrand. She was raised in Freemont, Ohio until moving to Findlay, Ohio where she graduated from Findlay High School in ] 944. While in Findlay, she was employed as secretary to the vice president of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company for seven years. In the 1950's, she traveled to New Mexico to visit her sister Bonnie Sorenson. She began working at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell where she met an airman -Jim Nibert from Parkersburg West Virginia. On November 3,1956, she and Jim were married. After Jim was discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Portales, New Mexico so Jim could attend ENMU.They then moved to Clovis, New Mexico, where she worked as a supply buyer and construction contract administrator before becoming the Deputy Chief of the Contracting Division at Cannon Air Force Base. She retired in 1988 after 30 years of service. Jim and Elaine lived in Clovis for 40 years, moving back to Roswell in 2004. Elaine was an active member of the Church of Christ and participated in local and state politics and numerous social clubs and activities.She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother Isadore LeGrand; her husband Jim; her sister Bonnie Sorenson; her brother Victor LeGrand Jr. and his wife Virginia. She is survived by her son Greg and his wife Carolyn of Roswell; daughter Kim and her husband Eddie Meeks of Clovis; four grandchildren - Jennifer McDaniel and her husband Gabe Pfeiffer, David McDaniel, Gregory Nibert and Jeff Nibert; one precious great granddaughter Harlow Rose Pfeiffer; numerous nieces and nephews; and her brother-in-law and dear friend Dave Sorenson.A private family service will be held at a later date in Santa Fe. Elaine and her family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the NEW MEXICO CHRISTIAN CHILDREN'S HOME, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130-9983.Elaine had the most wonderful friends who provided so much happiness, laughter and love in her life.
