Elba Maria Porras passed away peacefully in her home on February 16, 2016 at the age of 96 with children and great grandchildren by her side. She was a long time resident of San Francisco in the Noe Valley District since 1948. Elba was born in Managua, Nicaragua on July 15, 1919 to the late Macedonia and Gilberto Zuniga. Elba preceded in death by her husband Orlando Porras; brothers: Humberto Zuniga, Efrain Zuniga, Bergman Zuniga; and sisters: Elsa Pataky, Dora Morales, and Blanca Lacayo. She is survived by brother: Gilberto Zuniga; children: Bonnie Villarreal; Orlando Porras; Otto Zuniga; grandchildren: Yvette Marenco; Freddy Marenco; Jennifer Marenco; Martha Soto; Danilo Castro; Abby Porras; Ana Porras; Monica Porras; Thomas Johnston; Rebecca Porras; Damian Zuniga; Degas Lujan; and Jabez Zuniga.
Elba was a hard working woman who worked multiple jobs throughout her life, including many years at Coast Envelope. She loved to cook and was well known in the city for her delicious naca tamales. Elba was a frequent traveler, visiting many international countries. Elba was a generous woman who offered help, and opened her home to many family and friends. She lived her life to the fullest as we all should, and left this world in peace.
Friends and family may visit Sunday, February 21st at Driscoll's Valencia St. Serra Mortuary, SF from 3-9pm where a Vigil will be held at 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day, Monday, February 22nd at 10am at St. Paul Church, 221 Valley Street, SF 94131. Burial at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma, CA. Reception to follow at Colma Community Center, 1520 Hillside Blvd, Colma CA.
