PRESTON - Eleanor Kaye Hobbs Hansen, 83, passed away peacefully at the Franklin County Medical Center on Tuesday, April 26, 2011. A beautiful dark-haired baby girl was born on a cold and snowy night, Dec. 21, 1927, the shortest day - but longest night of the year - to Leonard and Eleanor Hobbs. She was born at home by candlelight with the help of Dr. Cutler around Little Mountain in Franklin, Idaho, and was named Eleanor Kaye after her mother. Eleanor was the third of six children. She had a special love for her "daddy and mumma" and was a tender, loving caregiver to them. She was always concerned for their well being and comfort. She received most of her schooling in Franklin and was one of 14 seniors to graduate from Franklin High School. One week after her graduation, she married her longtime sweetheart, Paul M. Hansen, on May 24, 1945, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. A week after their marriage, Paul left for World War II. Paul and Eleanor were married for 52 inseparable years before Paul passed away in 1997. Whatever it was they were doing, they did it together. Paul and Eleanor were blessed with three children: Paula Kaye, Kathy and Larry Lynn. She made certain that everything her children ever needed was always there and in perfect order. They always maintained an immaculate home and yard. Eleanor loved beautiful flowers and spent countless hours tending her flower beds. Every flower was planted in just the perfect spot. The home was haven to anyone who came. Her greatest desire was to make sure you had every little thing you could ever want or need. No grandchild or great-grandchild ever left her home without a special gift and a stick of Double-Mint Gum, and if they stayed overnight she would make sure they were covered and warm many times throughout the night. She made the best tapioca pudding and no holiday dinner was complete without her candied yams. She was a beautiful person and always wanted to look her very best; a purse and pair of shoes to match every outfit. She had a dry, witty sense of humor and she had a funny laugh that was contagious. Eleanor worked for Del Monte Corp. for 44 years. She started on the belts sorting beans and retired as their quality control supervisor. She developed many dear and life-long friendships with her co-workers. Eleanor was a very hard worker and always expected everything to be in its place. If she gave you a job to do, you had better do it right. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many different callings. She especially loved being a "Singing Mother" and working in the Jr. Sunday School. She is survived by her children, Paula Kaye (LeRoy) Johnson, of Preston, Idaho; Kathleen (Neal) Porter, of North Logan, Utah; and Larry Lynn (LaDawn) Hansen, of Glendale, Idaho; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Larry (Sondra) Hobbs, of Franklin, Idaho; Gail (Grant) Smith, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Kenneth (Karen) Hobbs, of Preston; and many nieces and nephews that she was proud of. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, and a sister, Dorothy Anderson, brother, Leonard Hobbs Jr., brother-in-law, Arvie Anderson, and sister-in-law, Opal Hobbs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011, at noon in the Preston First Ward chapel, 213 S. 200 East in Preston. A viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston and Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. She will be buried next to her beloved Paul in the Preston Cemetery.
