It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Mary Clark. This caring and loving woman was lost just 30 days prior to her 100th birthday. Eleanor was born on 19th August 1917 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Ada and William Coburn. Her early memories were of happy times with her sister and brothers. During World War II Eleanor served in the Women's Royal Navy Service in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She received a campaign medal and a volunteer medal for her service and was always proud to be a Veteran. Being able to stand for her country gave Eleanor great purpose. After the war, Eleanor traded the East for West, where she made a career of all things floristry, first in Vancouver and then in Victoria. She worked for several florists and one particularly special shop where she met her husband, Harold Clark. They had 20 happy married years together, during which time Eleanor enjoyed buying properties, fixing them up and selling them. Cats and antiques were a big feature in their lives, probably in that order. Eleanor found time, along with her life long friend, Oli, to knit and sew for the Hospital Auxiliary.Oli recalls when they were younger, she and Eleanor would take the train to Seattle for the weekend and visit Pike's market where they bought pickled pigs feet and beer to take back to their hotel room where they were greeted by flowers sent by their respective husbands. The two women enjoyed anytime together, often taking long walks in nature. In her later years Eleanor stayed connected to nature, loving outings of any kind and would be outside in almost all weathers. She enjoyed crafts and shined with excitement when visited by friends or pets.Eleanor will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have her pass through their lives as fun loving, thoughtful and humble. Even in her later years she remained sharp minded and feisty. Thank you for all you taught us and shared with us Eleanor. We miss you.
