YORK Eleanor Virginia Cimicata Pioli entered into eternal rest peacefully in the arms of her husband and surrounded by her family at her home on Monday, January 12, 2015. Viewings will be on Sunday, January 18 at St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, PA from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Wake Service in the church immediately following, and Monday, January 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Louis Petruha, OFM, Cap as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., East York, is assisting the family. Eleanor was born on March 27, 1927, in East Rochester, New York, daughter of the late John and Helen (Talarico) Cimicata. She graduated from East Rochester High School and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Volleyball Team. She was a member of St. Jerome's (NY) Choral Group, the Cenacle Retreat League in Rochester, and the Caroll Club. She studied music at the Eastman School of Music and was an avid reader and bowler. She was a woman of strong faith who was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily. She worked as a secretary for Stromberg Carlson in Rochester, N.Y., and as a teller at Home Federal Bank, where she translated for Italian-speaking customers. She then worked for the Springettsbury Township Parks and Recreation Department before retiring in 2000, and was honored at a Township Supervisors meeting as the first woman to retire from the township with over 19 years of service. She was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Church and a former member of the adult choir. She was devoted to her husband, her daughters, and her grandchildren who will forever miss her. Eleanor is survived by her husband of 55 years, Louis, of York; her daughters, Libby (Brian) Plunkett of Forest Hill, Md., Barb (Wade) Bucher of York, and Kathy (Marc) Lubbers of Palmyra; her seven grandchildren, Meghan, Jimmy, Billy, Michael, Matthew, Anthony, and Alex; her brother, Paul (Sue) Cimicata of Penfield, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen (Talarico) Cimicata, and her sisters, Frances Cimicata and Anna (Cimicata) George. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Andre Lijoi for his compassionate, spiritual care throughout Eleanor's illness. In addition, special thanks to Hannah Keller, Gina Angell, Missy Filbert, and Kathy Vosburg. Your compassion and your dedication to Eleanor will always be remembered.
