SHERRILL >> Eleanor W. Keene, 93, of 430 E. Hamilton Ave., Sherrill, passed away on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, surrounded by her family at her son's home in Syracuse, following a brief illness.She was born on Feb. 11, 1923, at her parents' home in Sherrill, a daughter of Bert C. and Anna (Britzke) Wolverton. Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Sherrill, graduating from Sherrill High School in 1941. She was a member of Cochran Memorial Presbyterian Church in Oneida Castle. Eleanor enjoyed fishing, and most enjoyed her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid New York Yankees fan, and enjoyed watching the games on the television or listening to them on the radio. She married Kirk W. Keene on June 30, 1951, in Oneida Castle.Surviving are: a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Suzanne Keene of Syracuse; two grandchildren, William Keene and Georgia Keene; one sister, Marion Philo of Oneida; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Eleanor was predeceased by three brothers, Vernon Wolverton, Charles Wolverton, and Kenneth Wolverton; and six sisters, Bertha Griffin, Pauline Sorensen, Eva Fisher, Katherine Loomis, Alice Wolicki, and Vivian Mather. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. Pastor Kevin Bailey of Cochran Memorial Presbyterian Church, Oneida Castle, will officiate. Burial will be in Oneida Castle Cemetery. At Eleanor's request there will be no calling hours. In her memory, contributions may be made to Cochran Memorial Presbyterian Church, 11 State St., Oneida Castle, N.Y. 13421, with envelopes available at the funeral home.J.
