January 29, 1918-May 28, 2014Eleanora Ure Soderberg of Los Alamos died May 28, 2014, at the Sombrillo Nursing Facility.She was born on Jan. 29, 1918, in Ferry Hill, Sunderland, England. During World War II she was a staff sergeant in the British Army. While on leave in London, she met and later married an American soldier, Harold Soderberg.In 1946 she emigrated from Yorkshire, England, to Brooklyn, N.Y., to be with her husband. They moved to northern New Jersey and lived there till 1976. When Harold took an early retirement in 1976, they moved to Los Alamos, where their daughter and son-in-law had moved.Nora enjoyed working at the Shop-On-The-Corner at Trinity-on-the-Hill. She was an avid knitter and baked spectacular pastries. She loved visiting with friends and preparing and serving tea.Survivors include her daughter, Marian Kirchner, and grandson, Geoffrey Kirchner, SSgt. USAF.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Trinity-on-the-Hill.
