Elias Gutierrez Barajassan diego, CAElias Gutierrez Barajas passed away on October 23, 2016.He was born on April 2, 1931, in Santa Paula, California, to Francisco and Trinidad Barajas. He was the fifth of thirteen children. His brothers and sisters are Eloisa (d. NA), Avelina (d. 1938), Amado (d. 2002), Juan (d. 2009), Frank, Ramiro, Ramon, Mary Helen, Theresa, Ignacio, Jesus, and Serjio.Elias attended grammar school in Fillmore and Saticoy and went to Ventura high school. In 1951, Elias enlisted in the
Army and bravely fought in the great battle of Bloody Ridge of the Korean War. He quickly moved up in the enlisted ranks and after one year, was fighting under a battlefield commission of 2nd Lieutenant. He was acting company First Sergeant in the rank of Sergeant First Class until he was Honorably discharged in 1954. In 1954, Elias left the service and returned to Ventura, where he worked at the local courthouse. He enrolled at Ventura College, graduating with his Associate in Arts degree in 1959. In 1972, Elias met Gloria in Morelia, Mexico. They married and raised their three sons in San Diego, California. Elias worked in the taxi industry and as a correctional officer for the state of California until he retired in 1993. In his free time, Elias always enjoyed golfing. He also spent many years writing about his time in Korea. Elias is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria Barajas, his three sons, Elias Jr, Omar, and Salomon.
