Eliseo Escalante, 84, of Hoot Owl Hollow Lane in Jellico, died Jan. 28 at the Jellico Community Hospital.He was born on Nov. 1, 1928 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, to the late Patrocinio Escalante and Bernabela Garca Escalante. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was also a pastor for more than 50 years and a teacher for more than 65 years.He is survived by Carolta Escalante of Jellico; two daughters, Leticia Frazier and husband, Carl, of Williamsburg, Ky. and Ilsy Hernandez and husband, Hector, of Cleveland; two sons, Dr. David Escalante and wife, Regina, and Harold Escalante all of Jellico; five grandchildren, Cynthia Hernandez, Elizabeth Taylor, Eliseo Albert Hernandez, Jessica Escalante, and Merrilyn Escalante; three great-grandchildren, Daniela Miranda, Lues Reyes, and Abeth Reyes; one sister, Herminia Escalante; two brothers, Armando Escalante and Rigoberto Escalante; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family, friends, and students to mourn his passing.A memorial service was Feb. 2 with Pastor Hector Hernandez and Pastor Carlos Raminez officiating. Interment was at the Frazier Family Cemetery in Williamsburg,Ky.Croley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
