Elizabeth Alice "Betty" Tunney, age 98, of Corning, NY died Monday, November 28, 2016 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post, NY. Betty was born on January 6, 1918 in Corning to Thomas and Elizabeth (Driscoll) Tunney. She was educated in local schools: St. Mary's, Corning Free Academy (Class of 1935), and Elmira College (Class of 1940). She taught business in several New York State high schools including North Tonawanda, Savona, Corning Free Academy, and Corning East High School before retirement in 1975. Betty lived in many New York communities including North Tonawanda, Corning, Penn Yan, and Bath, but had a special love for her Crystal Beach home on Keuka Lake. Betty was proud of her Irish heritage, visiting her father's home in Ireland on several occasions. She was part of a tight-knit group of friends, "Friends and Relations" whom she loved as family, all of whom predeceased her. Surely, she is currently playing bridge, sipping cocktails and swapping stories with that wonderful group of friends. Betty was predeceased by her parents; brothers and sisters (and spouses): John (Helen), Thomas (Virginia), Evelyn (Tom) Culligan, Ann (Albert) Thomas, T. William (Doris), Joseph (Joan), and her sister-in-law, Nancy Tunney. She is survived by her brother Gene; sister-in-law, Claire; many nieces and nephews from three generations.Friends may call on Monday, December 5th from 4 until 7 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 East First Street in Corning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 155 State Street in Corning. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to All Saints Academy or to All Saints Parish. Betty's family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc.
