CHURUBUSCO — Elizabeth "Betty" DeHaven, 99, a resident of rural Columbia City at Round Lake and widow of Walter B. DeHaven, passed away at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at the home of her daughter. Mrs. DeHaven was born on July 22, 1916, in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Ralph and Johanna (Adler) Noll. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from South Side High School. On Oct. 16, 1940, she was married in Fort Wayne to Walter B. DeHaven and lived most all of her adult life at Tri Lakes. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Columbia City. She will be remembered for her gardening, her "sweet tooth," and most especially her love for her family. Mr. DeHaven preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1999. The surviving relatives include her daughter, Carolyn (Gary) Lopshire of Tri Lakes, with whom she made her home; her son, Walter (Joyce) DeHaven of Churubusco; her sister, Hazel Degitz of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Eric (Marti) Lopshire of Huntington, Jeremy (Taryn) Lopshire of Arrowsmith, Illinois, Danielle (Brock) Woodward of Roanoke, and Seth DeHaven of Fort Wayne; and her 10 great-grandchildren, Wilson, Charles, Joseph, Simon, Andrew, Anthony, Lucy, Annah, Sylvia and Caden Lopshire. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 13, 2016, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with the Rev. Lane Burgland, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today after 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
