Liz Posey Broome1936 - 2017Elizabeth L. Broome, 80, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away on October 20, 2017, after a long illness surrounded by her family and with a heartfelt prayer of love. She was born on November 14, 1936, to Percy W. Lawrence and Maude Lawrence of Black Diamond, AL.She is survived by her husband, J. Clyde Broome of Gulf Breeze, FL, son, Robert L. Carroll of Navarre, FL, grandson, Christopher Robert Carroll, Columbia SC, brother, James (Joe) Lawrence (Mary), of Magnolia Springs, AL stepdaughter, Cynthia L. Broome of Alexandria, VA, stepdaughter, Diana L. Kinkade (Greg), of Charleston and Chappells, SC, nephew, Joey (Bonnie) Lawrence, grandnephew, Zachery Lawrence of Magnolia Springs, AL and niece, Christina Lawrence,of Birmingham, ALLiz was a graduate of Hueytown High School, class of 1955, and of Jacksonville State University.During a career of over 39 years with Southern Bell Telephone Company, she served as Safety Manager for 15 years and in other responsible positions. During the time she worked with the University of Alabama as an adviser for Public Health and Injury Prevention, she received the Woman of the Year Award from the Business and Professional Women's Club. She worked on the Alabama Governor's Safety Task Force and was instrumental in getting the Seat Belt Law passed in Alabama. She was Past General Chairman of the National Safety Utilities Division and received the Cameron Award from the National Safety Council.She was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church in Gulf Breeze.Liz was a HUGE fan of Alabama Football. ROLLTIDE!!Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Bessemer Brown Funeral Home of Bessemer, AL, will be in charge of services. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. with graveside services at 11:30 a.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens in Bessemer, AL In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pensacola Humane Society 5 N Q Street.
