WHITE, Elizabeth Margaret Elizabeth was born on September 10, 1916 at Wellsdale, Alberta. Her family moved to Victoria in 1933 with Mother going to Mount Douglas High School. After graduation Mother enrolled in nursing at the Royal Jubilee Hospital until the start of WW2. She joined the WAAF and was stationed throughout England and Ireland where she met Bernard. They were married in 1945, came to Victoria briefly, moved to the Cowichan Valley and their Philip Street home where she lived for over 50 years. While in the Cowichan Valley Mother sang in the St. Johns and St. Peters Churches, was one of the founding members of the Cowichan Valley Weaving and Spinning Group, volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed Lawn Bowling. Mother was a games person and would 'school' many a youngster in shove-half-penny or pool, even with her restricted eyesight. Many samples of Mother's weaving endeavours are spread throughout the family and friends, as well as her bobbin lace and basketry pieces. Mother enjoyed entertaining and cooking with her macaroni & cheese a family favorite. Mother passed away peacefully seven weeks after her 100th birthday and leaves behind her children Annie (Warren), David (Kit), and Deborah (Pat), as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, left behind are many nieces and nephews from her five brothers and sisters, as well as two Godchildren. The family wish to thank 'The Priory', and, especially the 'Dogwood Cottage' staff for their care of our Mother. We are certain that their care enabled Mother to enjoy the last eight years of her life and achieve her goal of 100 years. We are eternally grateful for all you did for our Mother. A service will take place in the Spring of 2017.
