Elizabeth M. Powell, 102, of Montrose, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2016 at Gracious Living Estates in Montrose. Her husband of 56 years, George Powell predeceased her in 1996.She was born on July 2, 1914 in Detroit, Mich. Elizabeth M. Powell was the second of Ida Moran's and Alfred Moran's four children. Elizabeth experienced both the heyday of the twenties and the financial challenges of the Great Depression which resulted in her sudden removal from Dana Hall Prep School in Boston to her grandfather's northern Michigan farm. Her best family adventure tales emerge from this period in her young life. Her best friend, Helen Powell, from Dana Hall and her brother, George, visited 'Betty' at the farm. Betty and George later became a couple and married at the cusp of the Second World War. George's long stint in Greenland was a challenge for the couple, especially since their one and only daughter, Celia, was three months old before George set eyes on her. Betty was a Grey Lady during this period and later a Girl Scout leader, Park Presbyterian Church member, Women's Club member, and hospital volunteer. Her friends found her to be extremely loyal, hard working and fun loving. Her daughter Celia Warner, son-in-law Jim Warner, her grandsons, Scott and Daniel Warner, granddaughter-in-law, Mervi Pakaste, and great granddaughters, Leila, and Viola will miss their sweet 'Nonnie' so very much. She is predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Alfred; and her very beloved sister, Annette, whom she just lost this past spring. A visitation will be held at Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. A family memorial service is planned for the following week. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carenet of NEPA, or True Friends Animal Welfare Center, 16332 SR 706, Montrose, PA 18801.
