On Nov 3, 2016 Elizabeth Westover Walther passed away at the age of 101 ½. She was born on Feb 17, 1915 in Murphysboro, Illinois to her parents Robert W. Westover and Bertha Hamilton Westover. For 83 years she resided in New Orleans, the city she loved and celebrated. She attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, the Sherwood School of Music in Chicago, and graduated from Soule College in New Orleans. Mrs. Walther was active in numerous organizations including the 's Educational Drive, Pres.-St. Martin's Episcopal School Mothers' Club, Admissions Chr. & Board member-Home for Incurables, Pres.-Goodwill Auxiliary, Pres.-Metairie Garden Club, Board Member-Rain Tree Children's Svc., Board member-Covenant Nursing Home, member of PEO, Tri Sigma Sorority, Wesley Foundation at Tulane Uni., New Orleans Garden Society, & volunteer at East Jefferson Hospital. Her main focus revolved around the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Stewards, Board of Trustees, The Foundation, was the historian, sang in the choir, served as Music Comm. Chr., & was the organist. She was named Methodist Woman of the Year 1958 & 1960. She was a proud member of Rayne Memorial United Method Church. Survivors include her daughters Beverly Robertson, Joey Caruso (Mike), Elizabeth Stephens (Ken), step-daughter Frances Wells; grandchildren Wendy Holzman (Rob), Deidre Devier (Thomas Garcia), Kitty Rogers (Mel), Thad Devier (Kathy), Connie Lenneman, Beth Maillho (Andre), Tricia Banner (Todd), Caroline Sholl (Brian), Caitlin Cleveland (Tracey); step grandchildren Linda Jones (Ian), Sindy Hedges (Winston), Russ Munch (Kim), Terry Munch (Elaine), Patti Wells (Mark Hoskin), Jay Wells (Jeanette), Kerry Wells (Leigh); along with 34 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Walther was predeceased by her husband Henry Walther, Jr., sisters Mary Mayer (Ray) and Edith Procunier (Woodrow), step-daughter Shirley Munch and step-granddaughter Debbie Salter.
