(Winona) Elizabeth RipleyJohnston(Winona) Elizabeth Travis Shaffer Ripley passed away on November 23, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston just shy of her 95th birthday.Funeral services will be held Monday November 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren with burial to follow in the Brethren Cemetery near Dallas Center. There will be a visitation Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center from 2 - 4 p.m.Elizabeth was born on a farm northeast of Dallas Center on December 5, 1921, to George and Iris (Miller) Travis. She grew up on a farm west of Dallas Center. She was married at a young age to John Shaffer. They started their family in Dallas Center and together had six children. In 1963 they went their separate ways. In 1970 she was married to Charles Ripley. Elizabeth was a long time member of Church of the Brethren in Dallas Center later changing her membership to Stover Memorial Church of the Brethren in Des Moines. She was a deacon in her church for many years and was a devoted worker at the church dedicated to many activities and organizations within the church including her beloved Sew-Ciety.Elizabeth enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening, cooking and just being with her family. She was most known to all her family and friends for her "special" Christmas cookies that she spent days baking and decorating just before the Holiday. They were often called "works of art." Her and her cookies had been featured in different media outlets thru out the years.Elizabeth was preceded in death by both her former husbands as well as her parents, brother Dwight Travis, sister Electa Jeanette Brown, infant son Curtis Dwight Shaffer, son Ronald Shaffer, son Richard Shaffer and daughter in law Patricia (Gray) Shaffer, daughter Linda Robinson and son in law Marvin Robinson.She leaves to mourn her passing her children Patricia (Roger) Kuhl and James (Rhonda) Shaffer; daughter-in-law Donna Shaffer, 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Stover Memorial Church of the Brethren in Des Moines, Iowa. Online condolences will be welcomed at
