This obituary is administered by:
Elizabeth Lightle Yingling - SAVANNAH - Elizabeth Lib Lightle Yingling passed away on December 6, 2016 in Savannah, Georgia at the age of 98. She was born on June 23, 1918 in Searcy, Arkansas to Margaret McKinney Lightle and James Edward Lightle, becoming the younger sister of James Edward Lightle, Jr. Mrs. Yingling attended Hollins University and graduated from the
University of Texas before the age of 20. Shortly before World War II, she moved from Searcy, Arkansas to Washington, DC to work for her local Congressman, Wilbur Mills. In 1943, she married her childhood sweetheart, John Jack Hanson Yingling, while he was on leave from serving in the U.S. Navy as part of the Normandy invasion fleet. Following the war, Lib and her husband resided in Alexandria, Virginia where she raised their two children while her husband worked as an attorney in DC. When Jack retired, the couple moved to The Landings on Skidaway Island in Georgia, where they enjoyed playing golf and traveled extensively, often on golf vacations around the world. She also enjoyed playing tennis. Mrs. Yingling led an active life during these years, including being a member of The Landings Garden Club; member and President of The Landings Women's Golf Association; and member of the Telfair Museum, the Savannah Historical Association, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Notably, she was the oldest and longest-serving docent ever at the Davenport House Museum in Savannah. When her husband, Jack, passed away in 2004, Mrs. Yingling moved to The Marshes on Skidaway Island, where she continued to play golf and enjoy her many social and volunteer activities. She will be remembered as a kind, strong and gracious Southern lady who loved life and lived it to the fullest, with a twinkle in her blue eyes and an uncanny ability to remember names, dates and countless other details that related to her beloved family and cherished friends. Mrs. Yingling is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Yingling, and her son-in-law, Charles Chuck Morrow, of Savannah, Georgia; her son, Edward Lightle Yingling, and her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Doherty Yingling, of Washington, DC and Kiawah Island, SC; three grandchildren: Christopher Fort and his wife, Julia Cleveland Fort, of Atlanta, Georgia; Elizabeth Fort and her husband, Matthew Lehman, of Barnstable, Massachusetts; and Haley Yingling Gordon of Arlington, Virginia; as well as a great-grandson, Jack Robert Fort, of Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Yingling has been cremated. At a date as yet to be determined, a memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, and afterwards, she will be buried in her family plot, both in Searcy, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions be made in her memory to either: Elizabeth Yingling Memorial Contributions, The Davenport House Museum, 324 East State Street, Savannah, GA 31401, OR: The American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O.
