RACINE - Ella Poulsen Fox passed away peacefully at the Hospice Alliance/Hospice House on Friday, February 3, 2012. Ella was born on November 12, 1919, daughter of Knud and Katherine Fuglsang Poulsen and was a lifelong resident of Racine. Ella graduated from Washington Park High School, in the class of 1938. On August 5, 1944 she married Charles H. Fox and celebrated their 66th anniversary before Charles passed away in late 2010. She and Chuck loved to go dancing and golfing. They kept busy raising four children, taking regular family summer vacations in northern Wisconsin, and playing golf with family and friends. For many years, Ella belonged to the Johnson Park Ladies Golf League and several bridge clubs. She was also a volunteer for the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, going out to favorite restaurants and travelling. Some of her favorite trips included visiting her parent's birthplaces in Denmark, and spending time during the winter in Gulf Shores with their dear friends, Eula and Marv Nelson. It delighted her to share with family and friends, her beautiful home which her son, John designed. She also loved watching all the wildlife activity around the backyard pond. She was preceded in death by her brother Anker, who died in World War II and her dear sister Helen Wood, with whom she enjoyed weekly second hand shopping sprees and ice cream sundaes. In addition, she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, J. Bernard Fox, Peter W. (Bill) Fox, William Wood, Albert Vrana, sister-in-law, Lois Fox, step-granddaughter, Stacy West and many dear friends. Our fondest memories of Ella include going out to lunch on Saturdays with her daughter Kathy, travelling with her son John and his wife Chris, playing double solitaire and backgammon with her daughter Jane, and attending her son Tim's concerts. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen (Todd) Pettit; Jane (Mark) Anderson; sons, John C. (Christine) Fox; and Timothy D. (June) Fox; grandsons David (Carrie) Pettit; Daniel (Renee) Pettit; Jason (Kelli) Pettit, Matt Anderson (Amy Furman); granddaughter, Jess Fox Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Frankie, Jack, Emmy, Elaina, Alexa, Charlie, and Lucy Pettit; step great-grandchildren, Evance, Sedric, and Autumn Grandberry; brother and sisters-in law, Mary Fox, Richard and Lois Fox, Marg Vrana, Carol Fox, nieces Kathryn, Sally, Sandy, and Susie and nephews Peter, Patrick and Daniel. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, 11:00 am at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Avenue, with Rev. Dr. Warren Williams officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Wednesday at the church at 10:00 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance or Best Friends Animal Society are suggested. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark DeCheck, the staff at Harmony Commons, and all the caregivers at Hospice Alliance for their loving and compassionate care.
